👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 1)

Let us begin with the Gayatri mantra:

“Om bhur bhuva¡ swah tatsaviturvarenyan bhargo devasya dhimahi dhiyo yonah pracodayat”

You all must have heard of the grace of God. His manifestations are called “devata” (deity) in the Vedas; devata means “one who gives”.  Many of us pray and worship the deities because we either want something or we need help in adverse moments. Let us discuss about deities.

There is no doubt that deities do bless us enormously; otherwise they would not have been named as “deities” because by definition deities always give something. There is nothing wrong or unnatural if one requests something from someone who always wants to give. But what do deities give? They give only what they themselves possess. Naturally, one can give only what one has. Deities have only one thing – divinity (devatva). Divinity is the most refined and virtuous form of one’s nature, conduct, qualities and deeds. Deities bestow divinity upon the devotees and become relieved, saying that, “we have given you the best we could; now it is up to you to accept and make use of it in the way you find it suitable and succeed accordingly.”

There is one thing in the world that indeed yields commendable success and that is excellence of personality. It is the minimum requirement to achieve anything worthwhile and fulfilling. If one has somehow gained something despite having an inferior personality and without demonstrating his talents, hard work and essential qualities, then his success will be short lived and incomplete. If your digestive system is weak then an overdose of eatables is sure to create problems and upset your health. Similarly, if you don’t have wisdom and the ability to make proper use of the resources, facilities and prosperities available to you, then these would trouble you in one way or the other. If there is a lack of virtues and saneness then your inherited or inappropriately earned wealth will act as a catalyst for your evils and weaknesses; these would nurture improper addictions, enhance your ego and sooner or later ruin your life.

👉 Worship and Service to Humanity Should be Done Together

Virtues can be learned and integrated in life by putting them into practice. One has to plunge into a pool to learn swimming. One has to go to a wrestling club to learn wrestling. One has to take help of musical instrument to learn music. In the same way, one must regularly perform worship and related rituals to enhance their feelings of devotion to God.

Student needs to use notepad, book, pen, ink, etc. to study.Scientists need many types of equipment, chemicals and a laboratory to carry out their scientific investigations. Similarly, one will have to set up a routine of staying occupied in doing good deeds in order to learn and ingrain good virtues in their life.

One cannot acquire any virtue or develop a deep devotion to it just by thinking about it or having a desire to acquire it (but doing nothing actively about it). Therefore, if you do experience the usefulness and importance of certain good virtues and really wish to integrate them in your life, you should start constantly applying them on daily basis in at least some sort of good deeds. You should be willing to put into action any thought or idea you may feel to be useful.

👉 Two approaches to forming a family

Family are formed in two ways—1. through blood relation, in other words by children being born to parents and 2. by people interested in some particular thoughts, principles or philosophy coming together. The family consisting of parents and their children is regarded as a household or a family in a conventional sense. People who share similar feelings, thoughts and aspirations too come close together and become just like a family. When even people like thieves, dacoits, gamblers, addicts, etc. can develop a bond of comradeship between one another owing to their similar likings, nature, traits and pursuits, there should be no reason why people influenced by spirituals feelings, ideas and activities wouldn’t develop a family kind of affinity with each other. The family unit formed of blood relatives is a hereditary family while a family formed as a result of people having similar feelings is called a knowledge family or a guru family i.e. a family affiliated to a spiritual teacher.

In ancient times, gotra i.e. clans or ancestry were formed by way of both the above modes—on the basis of people being born in the same lineage as well as people getting affiliated to a particular guru traditions. The renowned rishi clans (gotra) of Kashyap, Bhardwaj,Garga, Vashishta, and so on can be found in all four castes, i.e. Brahmin, Kshatria, Vaishya, Shudra. This may make one wonder how the descendants of each rishi happen to exist in all four castes (when the original rishi would have belonged to only one of the four castes). The reason being, those clans not only have the descendants of the same lineage by birth but also have those who happened to join in as disciples (irrespective of their race or caste). That is why the clans of rishis can be found in all four castes. The bottom line is that we shouldn’t think only about developing our hereditary family but should also take care of developing and expanding our guru family and its traditions.

👉 Some Key-Aspects of Navaratri Sadhana - Amritvani

Sisters and Brothers,

🔶 Your sadhana1 session here in the auspicious period of Navaratri2 is coming to an end. Let us now take stock of what we did in this period and why?  While discussing the answers to these two questions it will also become clear to you what should be the effect of this sadhana and what benefits should be expected from it?

🔷 So let us first have a look at your strict routine here. In your homes most of you, as per the modern routine, prefer or are used to sleeping late in the night and getting up still later next morning. (What to say, if it happens to be a holiday!). And here?  The strict schedules here have compelled you to get up at 3:30 am! Not only getting up early, you also have to take bath quickly. What is that? You have been taught to bring drastic changes in your habits for your own betterment. Now there is no place for laziness in your entire day.

🔶 Other important change is that in the quality and timings of your food. I do not know what you often used to eat at your place. But I suppose usually people like to eat spicy, fried, lavish food; the meals everyday are also full of oily stuffs, and pickles and chatanis, papads and what not. Sweet-dish is also taken quite frequently! But here we have constrained you!  You are to eat austere and almost tasteless (by your standards) food here. Back home you used to eat casually whatever and whenever you feel like.

🔷 Your other activities are also restrained. You see, now you are made to sit at least for about three hours everyday to complete the assigned number (twenty-seven rosaries, i.e., 27X108 times) of japa3 of the sacred Gayatri Mantra.  This is part of the discipline of your Gayatri Anushthan Sadhana. You are told that, if you break the discipline, your sadhana will be disturbed which will amount to annoying the Goddess Gayatri and hence be regarded as a sin. This is part of psychological conditioning of your mind. Your faith together with this warning has alarmed your mind so much that it has suddenly become somewhat obedient these days!

🔶 Duration of this sadhana session is nine days only.  But this is only a short-term training and exposure to different aspects of sadhana. This is to teach you and give you a first-hand exposure of how you should discipline your life to achieve something worthwhile. I am not quite sure whether you could really learn anything. But you must take note of one thing. What is that? You must understand the definition of ‘Spirituality’ — adhyatma, the Science of Soul.
Generally people think of it as an occult subject matter of spirituality or a ritualistic religious practice of pleasing some deity and fetching Her blessings for worldly gains. This is all baseless. Do you think God is some dumb pleasure-hungry Being that showers blessings upon listening to your devotional chants and prayers in His praise and upon receiving your offerings made for his worship? Or, is He an invisible magician whose idol will be enshrined by you on some silver or gold-made throne in grand temple and then you will decorate it, offer lavish food as ‘puja prasada’, garlands and valuables and ‘pray’ for fulfilling your long list of desires and wishes?

🔷 Do you think of spirituality or spiritual practices of japa etc, as some tool to press your appeals, demands or needs before Him for some special favors?  All this is meaningless.  Don’t make fool of yourself and don’t degrade your religious faith. Do you think the Omniscient is a ‘pigeon’ that will be attracted to eat the ‘grains’ of your offerings of worship rituals, flowers, incense sticks, sweets, alms, etc?  Is the Almighty a ‘fish’ that may be caught in the ‘net’ of your so-called spiritual practices?

🔶 Do you think the principles of our great science of yoga, the purpose of immense life-long ascetic practices (tapashcharya) and devout sadhanas carried out by our divine rishis (Vedic Sages) and their teachings based on self-experiences are so shallow or hypocritical?

🔷 You better get rid of your crazy conceptions and illusory convictions of spirituality and God.  Also wane out your religious prejudices. Otherwise, you will keep wandering in the labyrinth of your own folly and achieve nothing for the whole life.  No amount of your efforts of worship, chanting, or pilgrimage would render you any result. Your superficial ‘religiosity’ and ostentatious devotion may swell your false pride but in reality it will only weaken your inner self and retard your spiritual progress.

🔶 I therefore insist that you must, I repeat, you must, learn at least one thing from this session. And that is – you must now be aware of the true meaning, principles and purpose of spirituality and spiritual sadhanas. So please note! Spirituality is the science of soul. It is the science of purifying and awakening the inner self and orienting the activities of life according to the soul-voice. Do not confuse it with any occult subject of ghosts, etc or, with any kind of magic or astonishing experience. Nor should you dream of attaining supernatural powers or potentials from spiritual endeavors of sadhanas.

🔷 In simplest terms, spirituality is a science of elevation, enlightenment and evolution of human life.  It trains you in the art of carving a fulfilling and praiseworthy life. It teaches you how to be a better person, how to improve your thoughts and actions in the righteous direction so as to make best use of your capabilities and excel your qualities and potentials to the highest levels.

🔶 Savants say that there is no problem that does not have a solution, no hardship that cannot be overcome by a prepared mind.  If you get rid of your shortcomings and learn to manage your resources and abilities efficiently, then you will be able to resolve most of the problems in your life. Thus, spirituality provides you solutions to tackle all problems in your life.

🔷 Let us try to understand how it happens. So let us consider some common problems faced by people today. Suppose you have some physical health problems. I will now explain how the principles and practices of spirituality help you eliminate this problem. Have you ever thought why does a disease attack some persons and not some others living in almost similar environmental conditions?  Once someone asked the ‘diseases’ – “Why do you keep wandering and spreading here and there and troubling the people?  This is not fair”. They (the diseases) responded — “We go only to those who invite us by imbalanced and uncontrolled life-style”.

🔶 Did you get the point? Indeed, the root-cause of all infirmities, all diseases, all kinds of physical sicknesses is — unrestrained use, even misuse of the natural power of sense-organs and adoption of irregular, haphazard life-styles. These are the obvious cause of weakening of the sense organs and the associated components inside the body and further disturbing the digestive system. It also shatters the defense mechanism (immune system) of the body]. Have you ever heard or read in any scientific books of wild animals falling ill? No, they only die their natural death or are killed by their predators. Because they live in perfect consonance with what Nature has set for them.  So whatever be the name of the disease and the ‘characterization’ of its cause, the fact is that at the root of all this is your negligence, your indiscipline.

🔷 It is up to what you invite (by your actions). If you invite diseases or associated adversities, you will get them. Now if you want to get rid of these you should uproot this primary cause. You may get ‘cured’ by heavy doses of medication but don’t forget it would only be a suppression of symptoms, a temporary relief. Unless you set your system right and take preventive measures, it will recur or occur in some other form. So, most importantly, you should control the greed of the tongue and also restrain the misuse of other sense organs as well.  Also, set a schedule for everyday to make thoughtful, industrious and productive use of your time. And strictly follow what you have scheduled for the day.  Then see who dares make you sick?

🔶 Mahatma Gandhi was in the early thirties of his age when he had severe problem of constipation. He had so much difficulty, as though his intestines had shrunk; he had to take anima almost every day for excretion. He was in South Africa around that time. He has written in his diary that he used to think he would survive only for four to five years more. If suppose his anima set is stolen or misplaced, or if he were stuck in some forest during a tour, then he would have an untimely death due to this problem, he used to think.  He used to be worried about his health. But, as we all know, nothing of this sort happened. Instead of getting depressed he faced the challenge boldly.

🔷 He took support of naturopathy and followed its principles throughout his life thereafter. He disciplined his diet and routine and gradually healed the problem himself. Though thin, he remained physically strong thereafter. He used to say that he would survive upto the age of hundred and twenty years. I think, he would have certainly, had he not been shot dead at the age of eighty.

🔶 If Gandhiji’s intestines could become healthy, his sickness could be healed, then why not yours? Why can’t it happen with you? Do you know who the nearest enemy of your health is, or what is the biggest barrier that hinders your efforts of disciplining yourself? It is your own tongue that you have let free like a wild cat.

🔷 It may sound bitter but it is true in one way or the other that it is the avarice of your tongue which eats your stamina, maligns your blood, ‘squeezes’ your blood and weakens your crucial body-functions like metabolism and immune response. Germs and viruses might be there, atmospheric environment might be polluted, but these would not have affected you, had your body’s resistance and vitality been strong.  I can vouch on behalf of the diseases that if you restrain your tongue, discipline the other sense organs and make adequate use of your physical labor, diseases dare not assail you.

🔶 There are many examples where people not only got rid of their health problems but also became very stout. They observed the above disciplines to live in consonance with the natural system of human-body and made extra efforts to strengthen their immune system. Chandgiram suffered from tuberculosis in his young age. No medicines could check his disease and his doctors had almost lost the hopes of his ever getting cured. One of his acquaintances, who had come to see this patient, advised him to eat balanced and healthy food at regular timings and go for walk regularly. He also advised the specific type of healthy food intake and some exercises and told – “If you love death then continue your present routine and if you love healthy life, then follow what I have suggested”.  The patient followed the wise advice and continued the disciplined diet and physical exercises even after he was cured. Gradually he gained strength and increased the exercises so much that this thin and weak TB patient eventually became the well known wrestler “Master Chandgiram”.

🔷 All of you have the hidden potential of gaining and sustaining good health and becoming strong like a wrestler. You can mold the circumstances in your favor; you can be happy and hearty even in this stressful world of today. But what to say friends! You are very good at observing the shortcomings of others, but hardly notice your own weaknesses. You often remain unaware of your bad habits; even if you do, you prefer finding some excuses and don’t make substantial efforts to change or improve them.  You don’t even feel to restrain yourself.  That is why you can’t be the followers or seekers of spirituality. You may only be called weak, helpless slaves of your own habits.

👉 How to Stay Happy? (Part1)

🔶 Why is it that some people are happy while some others are not? - This question has been eluding even the psychologists of the modern day. According to a recent survey, it has been found that people of Finland are the happiest people in the world. Countries like Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and Norway are among the Top-5, while India’s position is 133rd in the list of 155 countries. In this survey, every year about 1000 people from each country are asked a few questions and based on their responses, the results are declared on World Happiness Day (20th March).

🔷 Being happy is a state of mind. It is not necessary to be rich to be happy. Practically every survey ever done has shown that those who are happy stay in families. Such people get along very well with their friends and family. According to Daniel Gilbert, the Happiness Expert at Harvard University, we are happy when we are with our family. If we have friends, then it is even better. In some way or the other, everything that contributes to our happiness comes through either family or friends. The biggest factor for one’s happiness and fulfillment in life is, basically, love. A scientific study has shown that having someone to rely on helps a person’s nervous system relax, helps his brain stay healthier for a longer time, and reduces both emotional as well as physical pain.

🔶 A long-time researcher on this topic, George Vaillant says – ‘What influences life the most is the quality of our relationships with others’. It is these precious relationships that bind us together and hence influence our happiness to a large extent.
It is also evident that material prosperity has made man hollow from within. In fact, man spends his entire life earning money and realizes at the end that the desire for money is never-ending and the joys of life cannot be bought with money. So, to whatever extent possible, we should spend our time in lovingly strengthening our social life and thus making it prosperous.

🔷 Self confidence and sentiment are two different things. Self confidence men is always far sighted. He is always brave and confident all confident people always apply their contemplation. Hard working and activeness is always associated with that.

🔶 Among the prominent figures of this world intellectuals, learned leaders, scientists moneyed and famous are supposed to dominate in the society. Virtues and quality of life is always a God gift which must be used for self-development and welfare of the society.

🔷 Worship is a seed, which if put in proper discipline of growth, it will bear a full grown tree with all its components of  leaves branches fruits, flowers and their seeds again.

🔶 Decide aim of your life. Follow some ideality in your own life, and work whole heartedly on that to achieve your constant visit to that ideality itself is great success of life over and above other virtues of life.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Last Part)

🔶 Friends, turn away from the mirage of cravings, passions, greed and discontentment, and let your prayers and worship reach the stage where your personality would be illumined by God’s light, by the glow of divinity. This is true devotion. If you have cultivated virtuous tendencies and conduct, I assure you that you will get support and cooperation from people around you. Boons of enlightened progress will be showered upon you from all directions.

🔷 This is what has been, and will continue to be, the source of God’s blessings, the blessings of divine mother Gayatri. This has been the great tradition of devotion and of devotees and will be so in the future too. If you understand this secret and learn the true meaning of worship and devotion, your Gayatri anusthana here will be accomplished in the truest sense.

🔶 The self disciplining practices of this anusthana sadhana are meant to refine your personality so that virtuous tendencies flourish in you.  If this tapascarya of yours is sincere and one-pointed then at the end of this anusthana you will feel inwardly endowed with godly attributes of an authentically virtuous and noble person. When a person imbibes an attitude of loving service, he sees his own good in the welfare of others and experiences happiness in it. If you find them elevated in this state of nobility, I would say you have attained true devotion and grace of the god.

🔷 You would be blessed by God, just as the great devotees of the past have been. I have tried followed this path and have been blessed with sublime gifts in my life. I want all of you, who have come for this sadhana course of a condensed anusthana, to get inspired and be blessed by divine grace. If this inspires you and you begin to practice it, I assure you that the result will be so fulfilling, so majestic that you, your country, your life, your God, this sadhana course and I myself will be glorified. May God bless you with his grace.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 10)

All you really need will be provided

🔷 transparency of character is a great asset of a person through which he gets abundant support, affection and co-operation from all quarters. This is real prosperity. Can any monetary or material resources ever provide it? People donated unasked all their wealth and resources at the  feet of Buddha, moved by his compassion and absolute selflessness. Gandhiji’s benevolence, his missionary zeal, his aspirations were all aimed at the welfare of the lowliest and the lost.

🔶 This, together with the impeccability of his character, made him a universally acclaimed mahatma.  People from all strata of the society stood by him, cooperated with him and followed him. Millions of people voluntarily went to jails and sacrificed their lives for the noble cause of national freedom upon his call. Is such ethical and spiritual eminence attainable by us all? Yes, indeed, subject to only one condition – you too like mahatma, should be ready to be led by truth dwelling light of the spirit. Light, your shadow will follow you.

🔷 But you seem to be chasing your own shadow, the shadow of m³y³ – illusive worldly attractions and attachments – that seem to have overwhelmed you. You should learn to walk towards the light, towards God, noble aims and ideals. Such ideals are the attributes of deities like Hanuman and other emanations of God.

✍🏻 Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 9)

🔶 My concept of worship and divine blessings is somewhat different. I can say that a true devotee can attract divine energies by the force of his nobility; he can compel deities to help in pursuit of his noble aims. A true devotee in this sense is much stronger a deity; he can get God’s help whenever he asks as his right. God cannot ignore his call.

🔷 Those who worship god begging for a few worldly possessions or for fulfillment of ego-centric desires can’t be true devotees even if they spend all their time in prayers and rituals. Glad consent to God’s will is the real spirit of devotion; it is the prime condition to be fulfilled for being a devotee in its true sense. God has inalterably assured His devotee, the Gita- “yogaksemam vahamyaham” I will provide for all your needs.

🔶 True, God does take care of his devotee but He has not promised to satisfy his cravings. “Yoga” and “ksema” mean taking care of your physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual well-being. There should not be any confusion that it (God’s arrivance) includes the fulfilment of your gross sensual hunger. Don’t chase the mirage of passions and desires; it devalues the dignity of devotion and the pre-eminence of God’s grace. The relation between the deity and the devotee is graceful and dignified only when the devotee doesn’t beg for anything but rather offers to entirely give himself to the divine.

🔷 God has already given you so much! He has created you. He is always taking care of your yoga-ksema, without your praying for it. God is not a particularly embodied being. It is we who have conceived Him in various forms. If it is a must to give a definition, God could only be vaguely described as “an infinite ensemble of supreme moral principles, saintly ideals and nobility”. Faith in divine values and ideals and a self disciplined endeavor to live for high principles is true devotion and enlightened worship.

✍🏻 Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 8)

🔷 Friends! When God is pleased, He does not give you the petty worldly things you hanker after. Rather, He bestows on you godlike qualities which elevate your soul. The lives of world’s really great personage demonstrate this fact. None among them was such who did not receive God’s grace, guidance and cooperation of the masses they served.  Give me one name of a great personality who was not endowed with any godly qualities of compassion, love, faith and service and who did not elicit spontaneous and loving cooperation from those who followed him.

🔶 The noble values and principles of morality, ethics and spontaneity when adopted in conduct, help in enhancements of talents and resources. Saints adhere to great ideals of god like lives. They are never poor; required resources arrive at their doorstep. But they do not accumulate them; they generously share them with the needy.

🔷 When our minds are cleansed of all impurities and perversions, our material and inner resources are augmented. How many examples should I mention? The life of everyone who followed the ideal path of love-in-action and selfless service exemplifies this fact. They are true devotees in my view. I consider the worship and devotion of only those as true and worthwhile who could attract divine energies of their deity by the nobility of their character, by the magnetism of their virtues and by their single-minded determination at self refinement and self effacement When deities are happy with your worship, they bless you with the attributes of a divine being: enlightened wisdom, compassion and selfless service.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 7)

Meaning and Purpose of Worship
🔶 Why do we worship the divine?  To condition and remind our minds of our divine origin. True worship of God means only one thing –the cultivation of nobility in thoughts, motives, speech and action. If you think that by worshiping a particular God you will gain material success or fulfill a specific desire–– then it is a wrong delusion. Worshiping God with sincerity results in enhancement of virtues like generosity, compassion and warmth in your psyche.

🔷 It brings about a positive change in the attitude of the devotee towards life. If you have not performed worship in its true sense, then you are likely to be lost in a maze of lifeless mechanical rituals. You should worship in such a way that you also get the gifts of grace bestowed on true devotees present and past. Your virtues, character, actions, behavior, thoughts and sentiments must improve as a result of worship. This is what shows the activation of divinity in life. If you attain this state, great opportunities will knock at your door.

🔶 Glance through the cultural history of India –– all the great names in it are of those who served the noble cause for the good of all and not of those who earned scholastic laurels. Have you heard of Mahamana Malviyaji? He was an ordinary person who became a great personage through sincere worship of divinity as he conceived it.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 6)

What do the deities do?
🔷 Deities keep doing one thing. What do they keep doing? They keep showering flowers. Look at the scriptures. The holy Ramayana for instance describes at fifty odd places that deities showered sacred flowers from heaven. What are these flowers? They symbolize goodwill, cooperation, guidance, respect and support. What attracts these virtues? Divinity, which is still present in the world. It alone had survived (in the past) and will alone survive (in the future); it can never be wiped out. If the demons (evils) do not die then why should God (the highest symbol of divinity) die? Like-minded people are attracted towards each other. A deity is attracted by deity-like humans and ideals are attracted by ideals; this results in the acquisition of benevolence, opportunities and co-operation from all directions. This is what has been happening, is happening and will continue to happen.

🔶 I am admiring deities. Where do they live? They are present in the integrity of the human character and the inner self. They inspire the motivation and zeal that clears all illusions and breaks and destroys the web of complications, infirmities, ignorance and worries. Divine inspiration even compels one to follow the righteous path. This is the true blessing of a deity. Anything lesser or lower than this can’t be a blessing of a divine power. The doors of eminence, success and achievements open as soon as your qualities, deeds and nature are illuminated by the spark of divinity.

🔷 Whosoever has gained immortal, glorious progress or notable success in any field in the world to date has accomplished it through his virtuous personality. A deity’s blessing is the supremacy of qualities, talents and thoughts. The life history of every great personality demonstrates it. Almost all of them were born in ordinary or underprivileged families and circumstances. But they reached greater and greater heights and accomplished brighter and brighter goals! Look at our late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastry’s life for example.  He was blessed by God’s grace. How? In the form of two qualities – responsibility and wisdom. These great virtues persist in the linkage between God and the devotee and also strengthen it further. This is the only way to communicate with the Omniscient.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 5)

🔶 When one is attracted by the soothing wave of ideals and is immersed in it, then his magnetism, his charm, his voice, his overall personality and his authenticity are so empowered that everyone is impressed by him, attracted towards him and wants to cooperate with him. Vivekanand got abundant honour and support from all parts of the world. Who showered them? The Goddess Kali. If gurus like Ramkrishna are alive somewhere or are reborn, they will always grant blessings that will develop virtuous personality of their disciples.

🔷 If your personality is refined and evolved in the righteous direction, then help and harmonius association will be showered upon you from all directions according to your wishes. You won’t have to ask for them. You will receive them effortlessly. When divinity is expressed in your personality, benevolence and respect begin to fall upon you. So many examples are available before you. Look at revered Baba Amte! He donated everything and engaged his whole life for the service of the socially discarded leprosy patients.

🔶 This is a principle of greatness, an ideal of humanity, a boon of divinity. Blessings (of deities) cannot be expected in sacrifices of any lesser magnitude (than that of people like Baba Amte). And there is nothing greater to be blessed by… Begging has never brought anything useful to anyone and will never be able to bring anything better in future either.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 4)

Our folly!
🔷 Man is an intelligent being but at times displays his foolishness more than his intelligence. Don’t know from where he has developed the notion that Gods fulfil all desires; they bestow the boons of wealth, son, job, victory… and what not. Unfortunately, this misconception has entered in the field of spirituality too. This single illusion has caused so great a loss and harm that the enormous benefits and bright possibilities of spirituality that would have beatified man with unlimited joy have been ruined completely.

🔶 Deities have given only one thing in the ancient times and will give only one thing in the future too. As long as deities survive, devotion (to God) is sustained and the regularity of worship is maintained, one thing will be granted – divine virtues. If you are endowed with the virtues of divinity, then you will acquire hundreds and thousands times more glorious success than what you dream and desire now.

🔷 What do you want from the blessings of a deity or a great saint or from the power of a mantra? A job of few thousand rupees in lieu of the invaluable treasure of divinity? If any deity bestows divinity upon you, then it will raise the worth of your job so much that you will be grateful forever. Vivekanand had gone to Swami Ramkrishna to ask for a job but he got what a great soul like him indeed deserved –divinity, true devotion (bhakti), strength (ïakti) and peace (ï³nti). What are these? These are divine virtues. When saints bless their kindness upon you, they inspire unique enthusiasm and optimism in your inner self, which pulls you towards enlightened values of morality.

✍🏻 Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 3)

🔶 The cultivation of these noble qualities has allowed great people to accomplish what sounds impossible for a normal human being. With the growth of divinity in personality, anybody can reach great heights of glory in the worldly as well as spiritual domains. It is only the adept usage of your virtues that is important; it does not matter whether they are used in the spiritual or material field. Your qualities, deeds and nature are sources of power in themselves. Where and how use them depends entirely upon your will.

🔷 Success is earned by determined courage. Courageous temper is a spiritual quality. A yogi accomplishes devout endeavours with its support; tantriks and great personalities also achieve grand successes because of their extraordinary courage. Everyone needs it for attempting and succeeding in something (significant), even if he is a dacoit or a terrorist. If you are a yogi, you will be able to perform difficult yoga practices with the backing of your inner valour. If you are a leader, a reformer, then also you will progress as per your courageous zeal. It is a divine quality by origin.

🔶 You may use it the way you want, it is up to you. What is noteworthy or specific in a person is the effect of his inner qualities. If deities bestow something upon someone, it will always be the wealth of virtuous qualities, virtuous potentials. Goddess Gayatri, whom you pray and worship through anusthanas , will also endow you with divine qualities. What will happen with the virtues (you acquire)? Well, virtuous qualities and potentials can bring you all that you want. Whether materialistic or spiritual, whenever someone has gained success it has been based on his virtuous potentials and talents only. Without the qualities of character and efficiency one cannot gain anything worthwhile – neither worldly nor spiritual.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 2)

What else do the deities give?

🔷 What (else) do the deities give? Well they give you the capacity to digest and handle success. To wisely handle worldly possessions, powers and comforts, which appear to you as treasures of joy, you should have appropriate qualities. This ability – the key to the real joy – is what could be described as an offshoot of divinity. If divinity is awakened in you, then you could accomplish big goals from small or insignificant tasks; if you have greater opportunities and resources then well and good, but you would be happy and successful even without them. However if you desire something you do not deserve, or you are eager to acquire success without caring to improve yourself, then, well, what can I say!

🔶 Vigour and might of human body is good but if it is not controlled by wisdom, it could only aggravate terror or misuses, resulting in effects similar to that of adding fuel to the fire. Deities never commit the mistake of showering wealth or worldly resources. If they do, then they are risking total destruction and a disastrous end of humanity. Dear children! Humanity is the power which elevates and excels our thinking, attitude, ambitions and activities. It is a great attribute.

🔷 Attempting to fulfil your aspirations is not bad but is subject to one scrutiny – what is being desired and what for? If they are for a worldly (materialistic) purpose then it is necessary to know whether you deserve them, how would you digest this possession, and how will you use it. Man makes mistakes but not the Gods. Deities can’t bless you with things you often imagine or expect. Great people who made contacts with deities did not benefit materialistically. What did they receive? The virtues of humanity, the seeds of divinity. The virtuous talents and powers thus acquired enabled man to progress.

👉 Awakening Divinity in Man (Part 1)

Let us begin with the Gayatri mantra:
“Om bhur bhuva¡ swa¡ tatsaviturvareñyam bhargo devasya dhimahi dhiyo yona¡ pracodayat”

🔶 You all must have heard of the grace of God. His manifestations are called “devata” (deity) in the Vedas; devata means “one who gives”.  Many of us pray and worship the deities because we either want something or we need help in adverse moments. Let us discuss about deities.

🔷 There is no doubt that deities do bless us enormously; otherwise they would not have been named as “deities” because by definition deities always give something.

🔶 There is one thing in the world that indeed yields commendable success and that is excellence of personality.

👉 The Spirituality & its Reality. (Last Part)

🔷 The dirty and dry berries soaked in spittle of a sweeper were eaten by BHAGWAN, why, why he ate those berries? BHAGWAN said, ‘‘I do not eat berry but the soul, the soul and the honesty. The thinking-style, the greatness is the only things I eat. I feel obliged to receive this dose from anyone. I only eat and drink love and love.’’

🔶 Where is love with humans? Soaked in attachments, lust and avarice and where is shame with such humans? Had there been the shame, their souls would have been saturated; they would have been felt coolness, merriment would have taken place in their life. They would have given merriment to others. O helpless! O man engulfed in fire! Where is shame with them? Girls of BRIJ offered one cup of buttermilk to compel KRISHAN to dance over the whole courtyard.

🔷 Friends! Very this is the story of my life; very this is the spirituality of my life. Very this is how I do my UPASANA. Very this is the impressions of SADHANA. Finished, today’s session.

👉 The Spirituality & its Reality. (Part 3)

🔶 Friends! If I ever help you on any account either of humanity, spirituality or my soul and BHAGWAN, it is not my any favour extended to you, rather it is a favour done to my own soul which continues to complain me, ‘‘O rude man! Give something to this world, don’t eat up things. Avoid getting burdened with debt as here the man has been born only to give other eligible ones.’’

🔷 Friends! Each of you will land in above position once BHAGWAN comes to you, GAYTARI mantra comes to you. Each of you will land in the same position as that of mine. Whenever RAM will come to you, you will be living a life of HANUMAN; it means attaining a state of mind of HANUMAN implies RAM approaching to you. The day KRISHAN BHAGWAN comes to you; you will be living like ARJUN. If your approach in life is like that of HANUMAN and ARJUN, it can be said that either RAM or KRISHAN is with you.

🔶 Friends! It is an education of spirituality, of GAYATRI. You will say, ‘‘GURU JI, I came here to learn the magical tricks of GAYATRI mantra and yours’ other accomplishments. BETA!  There is no magic in the world and there is no importance and value of any ritual. Had it not been so, MARA, MARA of dacoit VALMIKI would not have worked; RAM, RAM of SHABRI would not have worked; your chanting of VISHNU SAHASTRNAM would not have gone in vein; your BHAGWAT-PATH( chanting of BHAGWAT) did not work but of SHABRI, her RAM-RAM continued to do miracles.

👉 The Spirituality & its Reality. (Part 2)

🔷 BHAGWAN asks, calls for an explanation from everybody and goes on saying only this, ‘‘I have offered you the human life, the most precious item of not only my treasure but of this world also. Give answer how you have expended the same? Give answer, O culprit! Give its answer to me. O accused! Just answer me.’’ BHAGWAN just goes on asking this question. BHAGWAN where on one hand goes on asking, ‘‘what did you give me?’’ we on the other keep demanding from him our dues asking him, ‘‘I have three daughters, where is my son as fourth child? I am earning 250 rupees per month, where is my promotion to 400 rupees per month? I have 80 BIGHA agricultural fields, while it should have been 100 BIGHAs.

🔶 Thus we keep complaining from BHAGWAN that he did not give so and so and in a way we continue to live with a list of have-nots.  Complaints begin to be generated from both the sides. BHAGWAN says, ‘‘you do not give this and that to me.’’ Here we say, ‘‘O BHAGWAN, you did not give me this and that.’’ This state of mind if allowed to be sustained makes in long run our circumstances complex and rigid leading us to live a spoiled life.

🔷 O man! Believe me, BHAGWAN is a particular stream of PARMATMA (a self-regulatory mechanism existing in the universe) and it comes in the form of some help or assistance from some quarter (internal or external). BHAGWAN rushing towards you for your help simply means thoughts of generosity, kindness occupying a seat in your mind and tendencies to help others and offer whatever is possessed to needy ones, occupying a seat in your mind.
